InnoDB is a database engine for MySQL databases, which is used by well known open-source script-based software applications such as Magento and Joomla v3. It is ideal for scalable apps, because it works very well when processing huge amounts of data. Rather than locking the whole database table to append new information to a database as many other engines do, InnoDB locks only one database row, so it can execute a lot more operations for the same length of time. Moreover, InnoDB offers a faster database failure recovery and supports transactions and foreign keys – rules that prescribe how data inserts and modifications should be treated. In case a certain operation hasn’t been thoroughly completed for some reason, the action will be rolled back. In this way, the content in the database will be kept intact and will not be partially merged with newly appended content.

InnoDB in Cloud Web Hosting

InnoDB is offered with all our Linux cloud web hosting packages by default, not as a paid upgrade or upon request, so you can activate and run any PHP script-based application which needs the InnoDB storage engine without the need to deal with any complication once you activate your shared account. InnoDB will be pre-selected as the default engine for a given database during the app activation process, irrespective of whether you take advantage of our one-click installer or create the database and install the application manually, as long as the app requires it instead of the more famous MyISAM engine. We will keep regular backups of all your databases, so you can rest assured that you will never lose any data if you delete a database accidentally or you overwrite some important info – you will simply have to inform us and we will restore everything back to normal.
